The most demanded excavator brands on the used equipment market during the first half of 2020

Excavators are the most popular used construction equipment on Mascus, where there are currently 27 000 of them for sale. In 2020, up until the end of May, buyers have sent almost 40 000 email buying inquiries for various types of second-hand excavators. The demand for excavators alone, as extrapolated from the number of email buying inquiries sent to sellers, represents 33% out of the total demand for used construction equipment listed for sale on Mascus.

There is a wide selection of different types and sizes of excavators on Mascus, suitable for specific jobs, from earth moving, waste lifting, mine excavating, to demolition, dredging and many other purposes. The demand for crawler excavators makes up for 44% of the general demand for excavators, while mini-excavators account for 28%, followed by wheeled excavators which represent 16% of the demand.

The manufacturer of the equipment is one of the decisive factors when looking to purchase an excavator. In the construction equipment industry, everybody is aware of the most important and trusted manufacturer names. Top excavators brands requested by buyers from the United States

Top preferred brands of excavators as reflected by email buying requests originating from the United States are: Caterpillar (32%), Komatsu (12%), Hitachi (10%) and Doosan (9%).

Top excavators brands requested by buyers from West Europe

Overall, Caterpillar excavators seem to be the top preference for buyers located in West Europe, as reflected in the 15% demand share of the total number of email buying requests sent through Mascus for this machine type in 2020 up until May. Hitachi holds the second place with 13% of the total requests for excavators on Mascus sent by buyers in this region.

Further in the top of buyers’ preferences, come the following excavator brands: Volvo (9%), Komatsu (8%), Kubota (7%), Takeuchi (6%), and JCB (6%).

It’s worth mentioning that West Europe sends 48% of the total buying requests for excavators through Mascus.

In the Nordic & Baltic region, Volvo has a strong position in the demand for used excavators, with a whopping 23% share of the total number of buying requests, at the same time being in the top position in most countries, except for Latvia, where Kubota is the top preferred manufacturer by buyers. The next brands in line for the buying predilection are Hitachi (9%) and Caterpillar (8%).

Buyers from the Nordic and Baltic region are sending 13% of the total of buying requests for excavators through Mascus.

Top excavators brands requested by buyers from East Europe

The top 3 brands receiving most buying requests from East Europe represent more than a 3rd of the total demand, similar to the situation in West Europe. However, the interesting fact is that JCB has entered the top and holds the third position (10%), following Volvo on the second place (11%). Caterpillar excavators are also the top preference in this region with 15% of the total buying requests coming from buyers in East Europe.

Another third of the demand from East Europe is made up collectively from requests for Komatsu (7%), Liebherr (7%), Hitachi (65), Kubota (6%) and Takeuchi (6%) excavators. Another specific trait for the demand in this region, is that the top 3 brands are very different in each country, we don’t see a major brand holding top position in most of the countries.
